It’s not what you think. Russian styling. I mean, you know we all love a bit of shiny metal in the right place. St Petersburg, The Hermitage, The Winter Palace etc etc.
But this blogpost on Russian styling couldn’t be further from the aesthetic of those beautiful palaces. You see, I have a new Russian friend, who is helping me to style my shoot.
Her colouring is rich but no gold in site: only deep greens, warm greys and soft browns. These earthy tones made me want to create a beautiful set around her but sadly for me, as a budding stylist wanting to flex my creative muscles, it wasn’t to be. I had every prop on standby: bowls of nuts, funky matches, candles – you name it, it was there.
But she is better alone. A branch of woody but soft White Bryony and orange berries that complement her colours, is all she needs. Oh and a bright yellow kitchen that occassionally creeps into shot. The only metal here is the dull matte of the stainless steel splash back, a far cry from the bling-y splendour we have come to expect of Russian interiors, old or new.
I find that old things look rather good against new, and she shows off this aesthetic to perfection. I hope you enjoy my new friend as much as I do.
