In these uncertain times, I feel we could all do with a cocktail of inspiration:
A measure of colour, a dash of texture, a slice of the unexpected with lashings and lashings of comfort is for me, perfect design.
As you may know, I launched my new-look brand Ilala during Design Week 2020 at Design Centre Chelsea Harbour where in a rare quiet moment, I managed to whizz about the harbour with my camera phone, snapping the showrooms and individual pieces which epitomise the perfect cocktail.
These images are not part of the Ilala Collection and I am not paid to write about these brands. As a well-known army general so beautifully wrote on his own anthology of poetry in 1944,
“nothing but the thread that binds them is my own”
They purely illustrate what appeals to me given about half hour’s window of opportunity, sadly not long enough to cover the whole harbour.
Acid greens abound with soft pinks, earthy reds with abstract shapes, rough plaster with rich velvets, dulled brass with bamboo in elegant forms, soft palettes of muted greys, punchy bold greens and blues, charcoal with baby blue and a hint of the wild.
Naturally the Ilala Collection would look fab alongside these pieces from our own lampshades to charming little side tables: the perfect cocktail.
I think I would christen it Ilala.
Delicious!
